Mr., Mrs. J. B. Ellis Entertained At Reception

 

     Mr. and Mrs. John Brantley Ellis were honored Sunday afternoon at a reception on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary.  The observance was held at the Ellis home, 202 S. Oleander Ave., with their children as hosts.

 

     Mr. and Mrs. Ellis, who were married January 31, 1924, in the parsonage of Elm Street Methodist Church, are the parents of 13 children -- two daughters and 11 sons.  They are: Mrs. Bobby Brock of Goldsboro and Mrs. Clell Lee of Raleigh; Jimmy of Charlotte, Larry and Steve of

Goldsboro; Richard (Bud) of Pikeville; Edward (Skinny) of Havelock, John and Tommy of the U. S. Navy, Bobby of Norfolk; Billy of the U. S. Coastguard at Houston, Texas; Charles of Nevada; Jerry of Alabama.

 

     The home was decorated throughout with arrangements of white mums and white and red carnations.

     Receiving at the front door were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Ellis, the honorees; and Mrs. James Shumate, who was a bridesmaid at the wedding.  Also present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Barnes.  Mr. Barnes served as best man.

     Mrs. Edward Ellis presided in the den where gifts were displayed.  And Mrs.

Larry Ellis registered the guests. 

     Mrs. Brock and Mrs. Lee presided at the refreshment table which was covered with a white cutwork cloth and centered with an arrangement of white carnations and fugi mums.  A wedding cake, topped with the numerals "40" was placed at one end of the table and red punch was poured from the opposite end.  Refreshments of individual bridal cakes, cheese stars, chicken salad sandwiches and nuts were served.

     Approximately 125 persons called during the appointed hours. ■
